The other night I was messing around with a short puzzle game for just a few minutes, but later on I found myself thinking about the strategies long after I had stopped playing. It’s kind of strange — those small interactions sometimes spark hours of reflection. Even quick scrolls through short posts leave me thinking about bigger questions during the day. Have you noticed how a few seconds of interaction can set off a chain of thoughts that lasts way longer?

I’ve seen how that plays out with students too. They’ll come across a short video or a quick fact online, and it looks like nothing in the moment. But days later, they’ll bring it up in class discussions and expand on it like they’ve been thinking about it the whole time. Those little sparks really do seem to keep working in the background and grow into bigger insights over time.
I get that a lot. I’ll watch a 15-second clip about history or tech, and later when I’m cooking or walking, my brain is still connecting dots. I read in https://www.digitalgpoint.com/new-attention-economy-seconds-of-play-hours-of-thought/ that these “seconds of play” actually work as seeds — they sit in the background and turn into deeper thoughts. It made me realize the time I thought I was “wasting” might actually be helping me process new ideas in ways I didn’t expect.
